How to... define user variable in Ansys Postprocessing

Very often we need to define a given area / zone / separated fragment with one variable. For example, it could be the average temperature of the model's cross-section as a function of time. For this type of operation, the function of defining your own variables from the level of postprocessing is very useful.

Own Variables in Postprocessing in Ansys

In the first stage, from the post-processing level, go to the Expressions tab. Right-click on the window field and select NEW.

Expressions Tab in Ansys Postprocessing

After selecting the NEW option, a window (1) will appear in which you enter the name of our Expression (red frame). Then, after confirming our name Expression, a details window will appear in which we will define the exact form of our function. Right-click (2) on the area of the newly opened window and select Functions -> CFD Post -> (the mathematical operation that interests us). In our case, we will calculate the average temperature value from the cross section of the model. We choose the ave (3) option and confirm. A function template will appear in the work window, which we will have to define until the end. Then right-click between the brackets and select the Variable (4) function. We choose the temperature and confirm our choice. There is also a faster method of just typing the letter T between the brackets. You can find all the symbols that define the variables in the Ansys Help Option. The last stage of Expression definition is assigning a region / zone from which a given variable will be calculated for us. Click with the right mouse button after the @ symbol. We choose the Locations option and we are looking for the region of interest to us. Then we confirm our choice (7).

After confirming our function in the Expressions window, it will be displayed in the main window of the tab (1 - red frame). Then go to the Variables tab where we define our search value that we can use to generate the chart (2). Right-click in the work window and select NEW. Similarly to the Expressions (3) tab, we add a name to our variable and confirm (blue frame). Then, in the new window that appears at the bottom of the screen (details), assign our previously created Expression to our Variable (4). After the assignment, our variable will appear in the main window of the tab (5- gray frame).
