How to... define Table in material properties - Piecewise Linear in Ansys Fluent

An important element of the analysis is the ability to define variable material properties depending, for example, on temperature. The Ansys Fluent program offers many options that will allow us to model the material in this way. One such feature is Piecewise Linear.

The first step is to open up Material Properties in Ansys Fluent. Double-click on the material you want to edit. Then, from the drop-down list, eg Cp (Specific Heat), select the Piecewise-Linear option. You can see the selection of such an option in the picture below.

After selecting Piecewise Linear press the Edit key (red frame). A window will appear in which we define the number of points in which our parameter will be defined (in our case Cp 6 points - blue frame). At six temperature points, we will define the value of the Cp parameter. In the green frame, we define what variable will be displayed on the X axis (according to which we will define Cp). In our case, we will base our Heat Capacity variable on temperature thresholds. Of course, we can define various variants of variables, we do not have to limit ourselves only to temperature. In the black box, we define values for both the Cp parameter and the temperature for each of the six reference points. In the yellow frame, we have a preview of our current variable on the X axis and its maximum and minimum values defined by us.

In the case of defining anisotropic materials (variable conductivity depending on the direction of conduction), here we also have the option of making our variable (in this case, conductivity) dependent on temperature. Below you can see what the definition of Piecewise Linear looks like with the Cyl-Orthotropic set up.
